What Is Or Was Your Favorite Job? A C.V. Overview
On one of my more recent job adventures, I assisted a new luxury property to be up and running, classy, and welcoming while putting together their VIP concierge black book of trusted referrals. A young colleague had posed this question to me and as I am well over 29 and still in the know, the question of what is or was your very favorite job, Michael? Took me by surprise as I had not thought about it when you're busy doing the work and hopefully always in a place or in an industry where the time flies by because you love it and not the opposite.
I had to think about that, and I understand why Adrian asked me that question, as I had been sharing with him some of my success stories from a few industries and CV profile, such as luxury retail, hospitality, airline, speaker and show business. These all came to be not because of any inability on my part to choose a lane to focus on, but from a secure place within myself to explore and experience many life and professional adventures to the point of mastery.
Can I answer that one question today and will the answer be just one particular job? After careful thought the answer is no, it has never been just any one job, place, or career path I have loved the most. Yet I can certainly state with ease the places I felt most at home, welcome, supported and received the most in exchange for day-to-day work as a professional out in the world. I believe the answer feels more like, where I learned, and experienced the most joy and fun, as well as which one provided the stage for me to fly and soar as a welcoming hospitality Eagle with autonomy.
The places and the people who believed in me, who put their trust in me, and when your working for the best of the best with global luxury brands that value the ways of old school and new, one does not take that lightly until you are no longer there and you realized oh wow, those people were so amazing and what a blast I had while each day we worked hard in consistency, flow and positive energy for all to succeed with my part in the mix, so when others ask what was it like or would you return to a certain job? The answer is all about timing, there are reasons why anyone would pick up their bed and walk from a place, and usually, it is for more than one reason.
Try as I may in all of my worldly wisdom, I never leave a place without first ensuring that I am saying goodbye with a sense of gratitude for what has been, as you do not want any lingering weeds of unhappiness to carry over with you or block the next perfect gig. The places that you choose to retire from also have to not just fill your spot if that’s possible especially when you were the one who created a one of a kind service that could only be filled with your flavor and expertise with how shall we say je ne sais quoi, to quote an adored ex-manager, endings of any kind any never made any easier by postponement or delay. I have found that when you start to you put your best foot forward to welcome in new beginnings, they tend to start coming towards you.
Is there a perfect workplace? Is there a perfect marriage where you never disagree or argue? Is life all sunshine and heart emojis flying all about? No, yet there are times in this world of C.V. creation and exploration that timing aligns with experience, and like a magnet or systematic miracles with all things just seem to flow in your favour and there you are right in the center of your next favored and best job, so when asked you can proudly say, my favorite job is the one I am in and where you see me standing today. Why because I do not know how to do it any other way, I mean really kids, why go to any place of employment unless it is your favorite at that very moment and what you can bring to the table and contribute to in the Art of service .
